Burroughs Cash Machines
How to check for lost money…..
If you have a Burroughs Cash Machine there is a very good
chance your machine still has some lost money in it. This document describes how to check and see if your machine
has any (antique) cash in it. This
document does not apply to Burroughs Cash Registers, which look more like an old
cash register. The Burroughs Cash
Machine is an adding machine on top of a cash drawer.
Instructions:
- You
must try to open the cash drawer. This generally happens by pressing the
total key on the keyboard. If
the machine is electric, you will have to plug it in for the total key to
work. If your machine has a
handle, simply press the total key and pull the handle.
The cash drawer should open. Some
machines have a key on the top or side of the cash drawer that if you have
the key and turn it, it will also open the cash drawer.
- Once
the cash drawer is open, you must remove the till (insert for coins and
bills that sits in the cash drawer). The
till may be removed by pulling forward on the level in the center of the
bottom front of the cash drawer. If you can’t find the level, tip the
entire machine on its side to look. When you pull the level forward you
should be able to lift out the till.
- Remove
the cash drawer. This can be
accomplished by pulling the drawer out as far as possible and lifting the
small level in the very back (middle) of the empty drawer. When you lift the
level you can continue to pull out the drawer completely.
- Now
check for any money. You will
need a flashlight. Look in the
opening where the drawer was. In
the very back of the opening you should find some treasure from the past.
Cash if you are lucky. Look
carefully, sometimes coins are hiding in the bottom.
It may be a little dirty in the back but that is where you will find
any cash.
If you have questions about the just drop me a note.
